Let's re-think

I am presenting to you this article with an intense sense of responsibility as a citizen of India. At the end of this article, I would want everyone who reads this to re-think the core values and ideologies of our mother nation. Are you thinking what are core values and ideologies are?

Today and yesterday (Nov 27 and Nov 26 2008) has seen one of the worst kinds of terror attacks on the financial capital of India, a new form of terror which was executed to its minute perfection. At this point of time, 101 people are killed and close to 300 injured. This is deeply saddening. I will not be quoting any specifics about this incident here as that is only going to scatter our thoughts. This article might not have the best of sequences and flow since I am trying to convey something very fundamental which seems to be phasing out.

I have my own doubts on the sense of responsibility held by any citizen towards the country. We need to evaluate the extent to which our deeds have been a positive motive in protecting the harmony and peace of the country which is known for its utmost diversity and tolerance. Let’s ask the question to our self if we are truly a responsible citizen. I am sure most of us would want to have a well defined checklist to comply to be a responsible citizen. I suggest our conscience is the best judge. Did any act of yours make you think twice? Something as simple as not giving way to pedestrians while driving.

Are we considerate towards the aged, the young children or the challenged ones when we are in public? In this fast materialistic world, the long found values are slowly fading away. This is just an example of trying to be a responsible citizen. I am not a fault finding machine to point fingers at. This is a collective forum to alarm those who have just been running a monotonous race which is headed nowhere until we are truly human. I just got alarmed and I wanted to pen down the same to my fellow friends.

Strong human values were once one of our biggest assets which seem to have gone astray now. How many times have we ignored a circumstance where we could have helped someone without even hurting us. This is so primitive. At the outset, this is a question I pose to myself. We have slowly eroded to a spot where we don’t even realize the brunt of the framework. Having human consideration was once not considered as a help we extend. Gone are the days. Let’s start making headway on something as straightforward as being a human. This could be a big leap in getting back to a nascent human form.

These ignored values are being bundled up over a period of time to fabricate a wicked character called terrorist. This terrifying avatar is secular and has its roots deep which needs to be eradicated straight away. Terror has caused hundreds of innocent lives who don’t even know why the act of terror was performed. Do those who perform the terror strikes have a clear-cut purpose for their act? They can have some reason behind the cruel act which is in fact just a superficial motive.

I am going a little out of context here from a responsible citizen to a responsible social body. Media has always played the role of a constructive facilitator and has helped reach to a consensus on many issues. Off late, we have seen some aggravating directions thrown by the media which is not welcoming. This is just by a fractional section of media, but in a country setup like India, we have an exponential cascading effect which could be disturbing. Let’s start being morally and politically correct rather than just being politically correct. In its lasting role to play, media should emerge as a social body with colossal responsibility.

Our nation has immense potential to be a strong economy and a super power very soon which is already predicted by acceptable sources. This can come true only if we set the fundamentals precise. At this point when the nation is grieving for this unacceptable act of terror, lets all vow together to be a more responsible citizen where we strive to live with our core values in place. We need to strive to have strong values, principles in place so that we convey a strong baton to our future generations which can be treasured. This seed can surely blossom into something that can be long cherished. Let’s all unite and try to fight this terror as a single faction called human.

I love what you have written here. I have one question for you - How much are we thinking to be able to rethink?

I repeat myself - How are you going to change the world?

optimistically waiting

I am not sure if my response is going to answer your question. But i think we should first not forget what happened in the last 62 hours between 26-Nov-08 night till 29- Nov-08 morning. These are very touching, today i want to be a more responsible citizen,I will surely continue that if i dont forget this brutal event.Time is the best healer, For certain events like this national tragedy, it should not heal over time. That to an extent can change the world at our context.I would also like to end this with a quote

"Pessimism never won any battle"
