Salute Our Real Heroes

This piece of article is in a way an extension of the previous post “Let’s re-think”. I suggest the readers to read the previous post “Let’s re-think” before setting the context here. The act of terror on our financial capital Mumbai from 26th Nov to 29th Nov 2008 should be considered a national tragedy. When I penned the previous line, I felt demolished. The modern form of terror has a start and end date associated with it which is very frightening. This act of terror has claimed hundreds of lives and left hundreds injured.

We also need to think of hundreds of people who were rescued safely by our Army, Marine Commandos and other Para-military troops. They have done an outstanding job in saving so many innocent lives and just think how grateful those rescued ones would feel. In the rescue operations, many commandos, police and Anti Terror Squad personnel lost their lives in their line of duty. At the end it was a job well done. But for those families who lost their loved ones in the code of work, life could well be a trauma.

I had a chance to follow a TV news channel which clearly showcased the various rescue operations done on various focal points. Even though what was telecasted was just a fraction, I could sense a lot of courage, dedication and patriotism in them. They have sacrificed their lives in saving so many innocent people. There were a few interviews with those rescued who were out of words to thank these greats. I felt numb several times in a short span trying to realize the kind of toil these selfless heroes have extended. There were also many sincere senior officers who have fallen prey to the attacks. A few names to mention are ATS chief Mr. Hemanth Karkare, Additional Commissioner of Police Mr. Ashok Kamte, Police Inspector Mr. Vijay Salaskar, NSG Commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and NSG Commando Mr. Havaldar Gajendra Singh. There are more people who have fallen trap and I would have preferred to include all the names if I would have known. The reason for mentioning names here is that, when I read my own post later and read those names, I can always remember their faces. A person like me who has followed the news freezes without words, think of the rescued. Lets all salute our real heroes. They have done something more than extraordinary.

It is not ending here by just saluting them and writing a post. It needs to go further in eliminating this bloody terror. How are we going to do that? We as public can contribute to an extent in helping the architects. But the fundamental landscape of our constitution towards terror should change. Terror is purely secular. That is something which everyone as citizens needs to understand. We need to fight terror irrespective of the religion, caste and language. If there are ways to fight terror from a more scientific angle than from a physical angle, it could be more rewarding from a result perspective and less defeat from a human standpoint. End of the day, we need to protect everyone exposed to this dreadful virus called terror irrespective of classification.

It already poses threat to our countries image in the international arena. We need to solder that image and embark as a county that could stand up against all odds. If we are able to do that, there would be greater meaning in the sacrifice done by our brave men in this instance.

When our National Security Guards and Marine Commandos came out of one of the terror spot, I heard a slogan in the television by the mob “Bharat Matha Ke Je”. That’s patriotic. I felt proud. To my dismay I heard something so provocative. Guess what. A slogan representing a faith at that juncture. Even though it was something associated to a faith that I follow, it was unacceptable at that point. I totally agree that we feel so relieved about the fact that a terror spot has been cleared from terrorists and us as human need to express our emotion. But we also need to understand the mob sentiments. That is something so elementary a person living in an urban area needs to know. Let’s think before we express. That is called the sixth sense.

Lets all unite to fight terror and eradicate that from our vocabulary. Lets all salute the brave heroes who have fought the battle against terror. Jai Hind and may God bless the world.

Let's re-think

I am presenting to you this article with an intense sense of responsibility as a citizen of India. At the end of this article, I would want everyone who reads this to re-think the core values and ideologies of our mother nation. Are you thinking what are core values and ideologies are?

Today and yesterday (Nov 27 and Nov 26 2008) has seen one of the worst kinds of terror attacks on the financial capital of India, a new form of terror which was executed to its minute perfection. At this point of time, 101 people are killed and close to 300 injured. This is deeply saddening. I will not be quoting any specifics about this incident here as that is only going to scatter our thoughts. This article might not have the best of sequences and flow since I am trying to convey something very fundamental which seems to be phasing out.

I have my own doubts on the sense of responsibility held by any citizen towards the country. We need to evaluate the extent to which our deeds have been a positive motive in protecting the harmony and peace of the country which is known for its utmost diversity and tolerance. Let’s ask the question to our self if we are truly a responsible citizen. I am sure most of us would want to have a well defined checklist to comply to be a responsible citizen. I suggest our conscience is the best judge. Did any act of yours make you think twice? Something as simple as not giving way to pedestrians while driving.

Are we considerate towards the aged, the young children or the challenged ones when we are in public? In this fast materialistic world, the long found values are slowly fading away. This is just an example of trying to be a responsible citizen. I am not a fault finding machine to point fingers at. This is a collective forum to alarm those who have just been running a monotonous race which is headed nowhere until we are truly human. I just got alarmed and I wanted to pen down the same to my fellow friends.

Strong human values were once one of our biggest assets which seem to have gone astray now. How many times have we ignored a circumstance where we could have helped someone without even hurting us. This is so primitive. At the outset, this is a question I pose to myself. We have slowly eroded to a spot where we don’t even realize the brunt of the framework. Having human consideration was once not considered as a help we extend. Gone are the days. Let’s start making headway on something as straightforward as being a human. This could be a big leap in getting back to a nascent human form.

These ignored values are being bundled up over a period of time to fabricate a wicked character called terrorist. This terrifying avatar is secular and has its roots deep which needs to be eradicated straight away. Terror has caused hundreds of innocent lives who don’t even know why the act of terror was performed. Do those who perform the terror strikes have a clear-cut purpose for their act? They can have some reason behind the cruel act which is in fact just a superficial motive.

I am going a little out of context here from a responsible citizen to a responsible social body. Media has always played the role of a constructive facilitator and has helped reach to a consensus on many issues. Off late, we have seen some aggravating directions thrown by the media which is not welcoming. This is just by a fractional section of media, but in a country setup like India, we have an exponential cascading effect which could be disturbing. Let’s start being morally and politically correct rather than just being politically correct. In its lasting role to play, media should emerge as a social body with colossal responsibility.

Our nation has immense potential to be a strong economy and a super power very soon which is already predicted by acceptable sources. This can come true only if we set the fundamentals precise. At this point when the nation is grieving for this unacceptable act of terror, lets all vow together to be a more responsible citizen where we strive to live with our core values in place. We need to strive to have strong values, principles in place so that we convey a strong baton to our future generations which can be treasured. This seed can surely blossom into something that can be long cherished. Let’s all unite and try to fight this terror as a single faction called human.

Confused

The first section in most of the malls in India welcomes you with a great mix of Fragrance and that sets a pleasant tone for the shoppers. Thats true for those who are there not to pick a perfume. If you are there to buy a perfume, beware. the sales guy could look too energetic and end up confusing you. The reason being, these guys are not one of those who work for the mall, their primary aim is to sell the brand of perfume they are linked to. They dont have a collective objective. Rather the sales guys in the fragrance section objectives are always conflicting since they want only their brand to be sold out. They could end up spoiling your whole day. I am not a critic and why should i be so specific and target and i gain nothing here. This was the view from many a people which i have heard over a period of time and experienced this myself.

A careful observation would surely expose the fact that they dont know what they are talking. If you are looking at one perfume, a guy could peep into your eye and try to sell his product. Good they are motivated and have stiff sales targets, but are the customers happy. Not at all. All they do is try to make you smell as many perfumes as posible and you are like a packet of noodles, confused to the core. Guess whos the savoir. Its our all time head ache therapy. Coffee beed. In this mixed scenario, i would love a mug of coffee too.

Each individual has his own taste and surely knows how he / she would want to smell. Its really nice to have someone help us decide something, but not confuse us. I know its their job and they will continue to do that and I will continue to write something like this.

Maharaja...Dada and Cricket

As the title says it all, anyone who follows cricket to its least minimum would surely catch the person in context, yes its Saurav Ganguly, the most successful captain India has ever seen. The captain who took India to the world cup final in 2003 will be retiring in the next 3 days. This man who is referred to as the "Controversies Child" by the critics, has taken India to a platform where the team has vaccined a built in attitude to handle the mighty opponents.

The body language of this left handed giant is something which was not seen among most of the captains pre-Ganguly Era. The much needed attitude and a blend of arrogance was a oxy-mask for the young cricket lovers, especially when the home team goes down under. Ganguly has made one of the biggest come-backs by any cricketer of his stature. The leap pulled him to the test match and then to the ODI's and later became SRK's kingpin for the "Kolkatta Knight Riders" for the 2008 first ever IPL season.

The Shirt-Take-Off at Lords dragged a lot of controvieries for breaking the Lords protocol. But Dada had a quick answer by shooting the arrow at Flintoff who had earlier done that back in India.

I am not a very good statistician, but I am of the strong opinion that the seniors of the game namely Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Kumble and VVS should go on for some more years, but already Kumble has called it quits and Ganguly will bid-adieu in the next 3 days. Is there anything better than experience? We are loosing on the talent pooled over the last decade. Dont we have to transition this in a much disiplined manner? I do see a lot of young talent queued up, but why are we hasty in pushing out those who have pulled us so far.

You like it or not, the contemporary Indian mindset does'nt like to see someone on top, is that the reason for pushing out the so called "Fab Four". Already the seniors are sliding down the sine wave in much acceleration and why do we still have to catalyst that and that looks a nasty sign.

Today, when Ganguly is at his career best in his last test series against Australia, media has raised a question if he wants to re-visit on his retirement decision. Many indian cricket lovers ridiculed Dada during his poor form and during his Chappell-Ganguly controvery. Why are we so fickle minded in a small sporting issue. When we cant have clarity in such a small non-impacting issue, it is so frustrating to know what kind of an immaturd fan following this game has in this part of the world. Lets predict how frustrating the contributors could get.

The best thing we can hope for is to have Ganguly associated with the sport in its most active form. We will still see Dada represent SRK's high profiled team for atleast next 2 years. Lets all wish Dada all success in his future path. Thanks to all his contributions to this wonderful game called Cricket.

"Yes We Can"

These three words could make a sea of difference for the forth coming years and for generations to come. November 4, 2008 could once be celebrated as a "Day of Change". July 4 could give greater joy to the patriots, but i see a very similar joy being felt on the "day of change". An Afro American emerged as the Presient of United States of America. Yes, its Barack Obama. A man who gave a all new dimension to the presidential campaign. Obama has come in a time where the state is facing so many larger issues such as the Iraq war, recession, financial crisis and many more. This puts Obama in a much corner where he needs to handle a multi-facet fire-fighting. It could be challenging days ahead for the Senator for Illinois.

Experts claim that this recession is much intense than the Great Depresion of the 1930's. This financial crisis has already infected most parts of the world which means the first citizen needs to fire on all cylinders to avoid the uproot. A Single person can never do anything drastic is such a macro scenario. The word "Team" in its true sense is required to anti-dote the present crisis. Few lines of the post-victory speech sense a lot of core values and idelogies which can well be translated into office. "And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too". I sense something good here.

Some policies of this black charming man could impact India, especially the Outsourcing policies. Yes, Why would someone worry about the neighbours lost bet when your own family is starving. This is the biggest reasons for the Indians to be sceptical about the Obama leadership. But it really does'nt matter if they were Pro-Obama or not. But they better be right from the word Go. The three magical words "Yes We Can" cascades such a positive breathe not only in the DC, but also in places far which are zone repelled.

The expectations from this man in context is far more than it would normally be. The primary reason being his innovative campaign which pulled a lot of people from home to vote, to vote for Change. Here i would like to highlight another line of post-victory speech, which mentioned "This victory alone is not the change we seek – it is only the chance for us to make that change". "Spring Forward" is quiet apt for the coming January as we expect a change in the positive direction.

My gut feeling here on this man who campaigned for Change will bring about a significant change in their homeland which should articulate a strong sense of positive reactions across the globe. I still dont understand war and that refrains me from commenting on that. But I know the troops needs to be pulled back from the deserts and the hills. It should still take some time. On the macro prediction, this man will really bring something which will be far remembered.

P.S. I have not travelled outside India, I dont know politics and i am below par on the global issues.
